Assignment #2 Multi-Media Project
In the July '99 (G.Potter's 591 course) summer session, I had started on a website for my Grade 6 homeroom class. Since I had never created a web site before, my partner (Karen Moore) created the frames, forms, tables and links for the site. I created the animation, the background, titles and provided the text for the site.Unfortunately, the animation would not insert into the website.
In this course, I used my previous project as a basis from which to create a web site all on my own. I build this site from scratch using a web editor and some HTML scripting. Features that I extended or learnt in this course:
- created and adjusted frames (size, borders, no scrolling
effects);
- manipulated the animation using 'flatten', 'convert to movie'
and html in order to get it to play upon opening the webpage and
stop after playing once;
- created tables and adjusted their various sizes and options to
match the theme;
- created a form for students to enter information and return to
me by email;
- created links to other sites, to the same page and to my email
address;
- manipulated digital camera images, scanned images and inserted
them into various web pages
- utilized horizontal bars
- manipulate various parts of the webpages using HTML due to web
editor limitations
- manipulated images from the world wide web (making them
transparent)
To be completed upon returning to my school, Kingsway College
School (KCS):
- find out which page on the KCS website my project will be
connected to; create a link from my project's home page (table of
contents) to the KCS site;
- take digital photos of the students in my class; upload onto
the 'meet us' site;
- upload any student projects or assignments onto the website and
link it to the related subject webpage
Purpose:
The purpose of this web site is primarily to provide my homeroom students a site on the internet where they can access information about their courses. It is constructed to give them a sense of ownership as their assignments and projects get loaded onto the site; it is created to form a sense of community outside of school for them. KCS is a private school in an affluent area of Toronto. I'm assuming that 90-100% of the students have access to a computer at home.
Ontario Curriculum Expectations:
- develop habits of mind towards technology;
- to communicate in a clear and concise manner;
- to utilize technology as a tool beyond the school and peruse
the internet in a meaningful and effective manner;
- to develop a sense of responsbility to the community as well as
to the self
